The Northeast/Caribbean AIDS Education and Training Center in
collaboration with Columbia University's Behavioral Health Program is
hosting a webinar on Wednesday, September
15th from 11 - 12pm EST.
Topic: Why Am I still Here? PTSD and Suicide Prevention for PLWH of
Color during the COVID-19 Pandemic
Speaker: Michael Tyler Ramos
Learning Objectives:
- Bring the past to the present in relation to the similarities and
disparities to of the HIV pandemic,COVID, and systemic racism
- Identify one way suicide is a manifestation of unprocessed trauma.
Who is that person who doesn't want to live? Is it you or the
fragmented self?
- Disproportionate impact on communities of color and those with
underlying health conditions. Trauma gives birth to suicidal
ideation as a coping mechanism. Normalize expression of feelings
through suicidal ideation and follow up with safety. “I don't want
to live” is it a moment? Not a thing or diagnosis
This program will be of interest to physicians, physician assistants,
nurse practitioners, registered nurses, pharmacists, social workers,
case managers, and mental health practitioners. Other disciplines are
also welcome to attend.
